Media release dated 10 April 2018
Qantas Frequent Flyer members can now earn Qantas Points on eligible energy bills with Red Energy, Snowy Hydro’s energy retailer – giving them a new way to earn points on their everyday household expenses.
The earn rate is one of the highest in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. Members looking to reach their next reward faster have the choice of signing up to the Qantas Red Plus plan to earn seven Qantas Points per dollar on their bill or they can opt for the Qantas Red Saver plan and access a 10 per cent ‘Pay on Time’ discount and earn two points per dollar.
Bonus points are also available for new customers and customers moving house.

With Red Energy customers spending an average of $1,500 a year on their energy bills, the Qantas Red Plus plan gives members the opportunity to earn more than 20,000 Qantas Points in the first 12 months – enough for an Economy Classic Flight Reward from Sydney to Fiji (plus taxes, fees and carrier charges of $92.58)4
Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth said members have been asking for the ability to earn points on their power bills so it’s expected to be a popular way for them to be rewarded.
“Consumers are always looking to get more value from their energy bills so having the opportunity to earn enough points for a Classic Flight Reward is an exciting proposition for our members,” Ms Wirth said.
“Some Frequent Flyers are already earning points on their household bills using their Qantas Points-earning credit cards and through the partnership with Red Energy, they can now ‘double dip’ and earn even more points.
“Given it’s an everyday expense it’s one of the easiest ways for members to keep boosting their points balance.”
Iain Graham, CEO of Red Energy said: “We’re excited to partner with another Australian organization like Qantas to deliver more value to our customers. We’ve been looking for ways to continue to reward our customers and with up to seven Qantas Points per dollar, we think this will be a really popular offer, helping Red Energy customers take their next Qantas flight on us.”
