Our Story
Our story started in 1949 when the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Authority was born and a key part of Australia’s history began. Fast forward to today and Snowy Hydro Limited is still 100% Aussie owned and now an end to end integrated energy business including the brands: Red Energy, Lumo Energy and Direct Connect. Red Energy and Lumo Energy provide electricity and gas to more than one million customers in Victoria, New South Wales, ACT, South East Queensland and South Australia. Direct Connect is one of Australia’s largest moving services companies, moving renters and home-owners across the country.
Red Energy
We came in to the market in 2004 to shake things up and we’ve been doing a good job of it ever since. We’re all about providing you and your community with something better. Unusual for an energy provider, we know. But we’re not your normal energy company. We’re completely owned by Snowy Hydro for starters, so we’re 100% Australian.

So when you call you’ll always be answered by a friendly voice and you’ll have that same person help you from the beginning to the end of your call. Our customers tell us over and over that’s how they like our service - personal, simple and easy.
Living energy is being small enough to really look after you, but big enough to give you the most affordable energy. Initially we supplied electricity to Victorian households but have since expanded into South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.

At Lumo we give our customers great value energy plans with award winning service, all while being an Australian owned company. That’s it, pretty simple really. We’ve also won a few awards and we’re pretty excited about it. Over the past 10 years Canstar Blue, Roy Morgan and Australian Reader’s Digest have given our service a thumbs up.
Direct Connect
Direct Connect is the largest moving services company in Australia, moving renters and homeowners across the country. Over the last 14 years we have helped move over 1 million households. Our expert team is Australian based, so we can help anyone move just about anywhere – whether it’s to the next suburb or interstate.
Our goal is to make moving easy. We have partnered with Australia’s leading Real Estate Agents and moving service providers to offer free no-obligation services, organising hassle-free connections and moving solutions. In just one phone call we can help arrange electricity, gas, phone, Internet and Pay TV with one of our market leading suppliers, so our customers can focus on enjoying their new home from the moment they move in.
We can also help you organise insurance for home or car through our insurance partner, arrange a removalist or truck hire to move belongings, and assist with any cleaning services that may be required.
Snowy Hydro
Snowy Hydro generates energy that underpins the security and reliability of the National Electricity Market.The Snowy Scheme sits in the heart of Kosciuszko National Park. Snowy Hydro manages 6,400 hectares of the park and around 24,000 hectares of freehold land. Snowy provides price risk management products for wholesale customers and deliver energy to homes and businesses. In total, we have 16 power stations and have more than 5,500MW of generating capacity across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
In 2019 we commenced construction of the Snowy 2.0 project. This pumped-hydro expansion of the Snowy Scheme will link two existing dams through a 27km underground tunnel and a new underground power station.
