A new connection includes:
- •○
Installing an electricity or gas meter for the first time at your home, shop or unit
- •○
Installing a gas pipe (service line) from the street to your property
- •○
Transferring a builder’s supply to the new owner or tenant at handover.
Because each state and distributor works differently, the steps can vary. Below is a simple guide to what’s involved, and where Red Energy can support.
Not sure who your electricity or gas distributor is? You can check on the Australian Energy Regulator website.
Electricity
The process to arrange for an electricity new connection in Victoria depends on your location and who your electricity distributor is.
If you’re unsure who your electricity distributor is, visit the Australian Energy Regulator website to find out.
Once we’ve submitted your request to your distributor, electricity supply is normally completed within 20 working days, provided all information provided is accurate and the site is ready.
The distributor will install the meter and switch the power on once their work is complete.
Citipower and Powercor
When your electrician has completed the electrical work for your site, have your electrician complete a request using the Citipower and Powercor eConnect Portal.
Once your electrician has submitted the request, Citipower or Powercor will notify us that we are your preferred retailer. We will contact you to finalise your request for your new connection when we receive this notification.
AusNet Services
Ausnet Services will operate via the EnergyConnect application portal. Any new connection, abolishment, solar, or alteration request must now be submitted directly through this portal.
Before submitting the application, your electrician must register for access by visiting: https://portal.ausnetservices.com.au/register.
Once registered, your electrician will need to submit the request via the portal and nominate Red Energy as your chosen retailer.
After Ausnet accepts the request, they will send an email with your application details and a unique reference number (e.g. ANSO-XXXXXXX), which we will then use to take action.
Jemena
When your electrician has completed the electrical work for your site, have your electrician complete an Electrical Work Request (EWR) form and a Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES) form and submit it to us by email newconnections@redenergy.com.au.
Once we have reviewed the paper work, we will contact you and finalise the request for your new connection.
United Energy
When your electrician has completed the electrical work for your site, have your electrician complete a request using the United My Energy Portal.
Once your electrician has submitted the request, United will notify us that we are your preferred retailer. We will contact you to finalise your request for your new connection when we receive this notification.
Gas
We can help if you are building a new home or connecting gas for the first time to an existing house or building.
This is a two step process:
- •○
The first step is arranging for the pipe from the gas mains in your street to the front of your house, this is known as a gas service line.
- •○
The second step is having your gas meter installed.
Before arranging to have your gas service line (the pipe from the street to your house) and meter installed, please check out the preparing your site for a new natural gas connection information sheet. This explains important requirements to help your new connection go smoothly.
Gas service line request
To arrange for your gas service line, please download and complete our Gas Connection Application Form and return it to us via email to gasnewconnections@redenergy.com.au
When we have received your completed request for a new gas service line, and once we have confirmed we have all the required information, we will schedule a site inspection to be completed by your gas distributor. Your gas service line should be installed within 20 working days after the site inspection.
Some requests need to be quoted. If your request needs a quote, we will be in contact to set up a time for the gas distributor to visit the site. The quote will include a timeframe to complete the work with the work commencing once any costs are paid in full.
Gas meter installation request
After your gas service line has been completed, we can arrange for your gas meter to be installed. Please complete our gas meter installation form and return it to us via email to gasnewconnections@redenergy.com.au. Once we have your form, we will contact you to finalise your request.
Builder account closure and transfer to new occupant
Finalise your existing energy accounts and we will contact the new occupant to set up a new energy account to ensure continuous supply of the electricity and gas for the handover date.
For subdivided lots, refer to Land Vic maps online before your application. If an old address shows, please include a plan of subdivision notice along with a council street allocation letter with the new address.
Please send your completed forms 5 business days before property handover to: customerdatateam@redenergy.com.au
