Gas safety

Gas leaks should not be ignored - they can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning and fires. If you smell a gas leak, take action quickly - turn off your gas appliances if safe to do so and call your gas network’s emergency number immediately.

In case of a major gas leak or if you feel your life or property is at risk, call 000 immediately.

Gas networks are responsible for repairing gas leaks that occur on your gas meter or the gas pipes from your street to the gas meter. Homeowners are responsible for maintaining gas appliances, flues/ducts, and gas pipes throughout the house to the gas meter.

You can find your gas network’s emergency number on your bill.

Australian Capital Territory

New South Wales

In NSW all gas fitters are legally required to provide NSW Fair Trading with completed copies of a Certificate of Inspection and a Certificate of Compliance no more than 5 business days after any gas fitting work has been carried out.
