Our business operations are proudly certified by Climate Active
At Red Energy, we’re serious about making our environment better, that’s why we’ve made changes to the way we work reducing our carbon emissions across our business. We’re proud to be the largest energy retailer in Australia to have its business operations certified by Climate Active. You can learn more about Climate Active by visiting their website.
To achieve our Climate Active certification we’ve made changes to the way we work across our business operations to reduce our carbon emissions.
- We purchase 100% GreenPower accredited electricity to power our offices
- We’ve upgraded our appliances and lighting to make it more energy efficient
- We are replacing our fleet of vehicles with electric and hydrogen cars
- We have electric bikes available for staff to use for shorter trips
- We promote video conferencing to minimise travel
- We’ve adopted a Paperlite policy and avoid using paper where possible.
Some carbon emissions associated with our organisation can’t be avoided, yet. To help offset those we’ve purchased Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).*
Disclaimer: Red Energy is Climate Active certified for our business operations. This does not extend to your energy supply.
*Whilst carbon offsets such as ACCUs may help offset greenhouse gas emissions, they do not prevent emissions that are released from burning fossil fuels. Even with carbon offsetting, the emissions released from burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use still contribute to climate change.
About Climate Active
Climate Active is an ongoing partnership between the Australian Government and Australian businesses to drive voluntary climate action. Climate Active is the only government-backed carbon certification scheme in Australia. The brand represents Australia’s collective effort to measure, reduce, and offset carbon emissions to lessen our negative impact on the environment.
Choose our Offset Gas product certified by Climate Active
Red Energy’s Offset Gas is an opt-in natural gas product certified by Climate Active and is charged as an additional rate to your standard gas usage charges. If you opt-in to our Offset Gas product, Red Energy will purchase Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) to help offset the carbon emissions associated with your natural gas usage*. This does not extend to other services associated with your account, including those from third parties. To view our charges and find out more about our opt-in Offset Gas product, click here.
*Whilst carbon offsets such as ACCUs may help offset greenhouse gas emissions, they do not prevent emissions that are released from burning fossil fuels. Even with carbon offsetting, the emissions released from burning fossil fuels for a customer’s energy use still contribute to climate change.

Supporting renewable energy for generations
Red Energy is proudly owned by Snowy Hydro, one of Australia’s largest generators of renewable energy. Snowy Hydro has delivered renewable energy to Australians through the Snowy Scheme for generations and has long term power purchase agreements with 12 solar and wind farms in NSW, SA and VIC. And, with the expansion of the Scheme through the Snowy 2.0 project, Snowy will play a key role in the transition to a 100% renewable energy future.
Red Energy’s renewable matching promise
Red Energy also offers customers a renewable matching promise on a number of eligible electricity products. The renewable matching promise means that for every unit of electricity you buy from Red Energy, Snowy Hydro Limited will match it by generating one unit of electricity from a renewable source.
