A fairer, simpler energy agreement
There are updates to the National Energy Retail Rules that affect your energy plan. For our customers in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia and Queensland, these updated consumer protections take effect from 1 July 2026 and are designed to give you more transparency and certainty regarding your energy costs.
The best part is, you don’t need to do a thing, and we’ve made sure our focus remains on giving you more certainty and support.
Here is a simple look at what these improvements mean for you:
Simpler, automatic discounts
Under these new rules, how your discounts are applied have changed. If your plan includes a Pay on Time™ Discount, this will now be applied to every bill. This ensures you always receive the benefit of your discount, providing you with more certainty over your energy costs.
Fewer fees and extra support
To reflect new consumer protections, we will continue to restrict all fees to reflect reasonable estimates of the costs incurred by us, as well as prohibit account establishment fees, de-energisation and re-energisation fees and special metering fees that are not network charges.
As is our current practice, we will not charge hardship customers, and customers experiencing payment difficulty or family violence any fees other than network charges.
Predictable pricing
Any increases to your rates or decreases to your solar feed-in tariff may now only occur once every 12 months. We’ll always provide you with written notice. This gives you more certainty over your energy costs, though pricing may still be adjusted if the adjustment is a direct result of a tariff reassignment by your distributor.
