Victoria
Electricity
Your Energy Tariff is the amount charged for providing energy under your contract with Red.
In Victoria, regardless of your electricity distributor, the available electricity tariff structures are changing. From July 2026, residential structures include:
- The new ‘Smart Rate’ (Three-Part Time of Use): A structure featuring lower midday rates (11am–4pm), a shorter evening peak (4pm–9pm), and standard off-peak times.
- Flat tariffs: Where the same price is charged day and night.
Please Note: Victorian residential demand tariffs will no longer be available from 1 July 2026.
Note for Business Customers: Demand tariffs and Business Time of Use tariffs remain an active option for business operations. In addition, you may have a:
- Controlled Load tariff for your separately wired hot water service or underfloor/slab heating
- Solar tariff for any unused/excess solar power generated and fed back into the electricity grid.
Residential Time of Use tariff structure
Depending on your current plan status, your Time of Use windows will look like one of the following:
- Peak times: 3pm - 9pm Monday to Sunday
- Off peak times: all other times
The New Residential ‘Smart Rate’
If you received a notice transitioning you to the new three-part structure, your windows are updating to:
- Smart Rate (Midday): 11am - 4pm daily (your lowest rate window)
- Evening Peak: 4pm - 9pm daily (shortened by one hour)
- Off-Peak: 9pm - 11am daily
Business Time of Use tariff structure
- Peak times: 9am - 9pm Monday to Friday
