Louise’s Country Life: Family, Farm, and a Feathered Friend
5th November 2024
Red Energy customer Louise’s days on the farm are filled with the joy of family, and the occasional chaos brought by her cheeky blue and gold macaw, Mr. Mayo. This story is part of our customer spotlight series.
Farm life is always eventful
Life on Louise’s five-acre property is never dull. Between spending time with her family, and keeping up with Mr. Mayo, their blue and gold macaw, there’s always something going on. “He’s the boss of the house,” Louise laughs. “We went into the shop for a horse rug and ended up leaving with a bird. He chose us.”
Louise’s love for the countryside runs deep, having grown up in Whittlesea where her family raised horses. Now, she and her husband Phil have embraced country living, even if Phil wasn’t as much of a farm guy at first. “He’s Kiwi, so I had more of the country roots, but we’ve learned together. Once we got the horses, the farm life just followed naturally.”
But living on a farm comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to energy. Between the house, the animals, and keeping Mr. Mayo comfortable in a climate-controlled room, energy is essential. “We’ve got solar panels, but we use a lot of power—especially with the macaw needing the room to stay between 21 and 28 degrees,” Louise explains. “If it gets too hot or too cold, it’s dangerous for him.”

Red’s personal touch
What stands out to Louise is Red’s personal touch. “Whenever I’ve called Red, they’ve always gone the extra mile to help,” she says. “When we had a massive issue with the wiring in our old house, Red were the ones who noticed it and helped us sort it out.”
For Louise, life on the land is all about finding balance—whether it’s managing energy costs, keeping the farm running smoothly, or making sure Mr. Mayo stays happy.
